I am still very impressed with the results of the Nikon 300mm f2.8 VRII (using Nikon D300) in combination with both teleconverters. Truly outstanding in my opinion. The new TC-20EIII seems to yield even better results that the TC-17EII from my early tests, but both create very acceptable images. I am especially impressed with this new TC-20EIII 2.0x teleconverter, especially since the previous model (TC-20EII) was basically only good as a paper weight. The color, contrast, and sharpness was great with the TC-20EIII and autofocus worked just fine.

I call these my “good lighting” shots since they were conducted outside on a bright sunny day. I used a tripod and did shots in groups of 3 photos at continuous release and selected the best of each series. In all of the photos, aperture priority was used and Yoda’s face (specifically his right eye) was the focal point. I am very happy with these results, but don’t take my word on it, look for yourself below. Click on the photos to see at 100%. Many differences are subtle.
